"This summer, a new rallying cry in the decades long disability rights movement was announced. Lawrence Carter-Long, Executive Director of the Disability Network of NYC, announced from the podium at the first ever NYC Disability Summit that for too long the mantra of the movement had been "Nothing about us without us"; now, with over 1 million people with a disability living in New York City, the new mantra must be "Nothing without us, period." ... Leadership Program Alum Coordinates First AfroColombian Day
On July 15th 2009 the Queens Museum of Art hosted the first ever celebration of AfroColombian heritage outside of Colombia. Guesnerth Josue Pera, alum of the CUNY/IVE Leadership program coordinated and organized the event. The event was supported by various organizations both in the Unites States and in Colombia and was purposed with informing attendees of the cultural contributions AfroColombians make to the Colombian national identity. ... CUNY/IVE Leadership Program Announces Final Competitive Event Winners!
On Wednesday May 27, 2009 the CUNY IVE Leadership Program held its 7th Annual Final Competitive Event, hosted at Deloitte
Touché Tohmatsu. After months of preparation, the students who participated in this semester's Leadership Program presented their projects
to a panel of judges for awards and prizes. This year 18 groups composed of 36 students from colleges throughout CUNY participated in the event.

On Wednesday May 13, 2009 Catherine and Grace Zinnel, winners of last year's Final Competitive Event,
led the Leadership Program's final Leadership Roundtable of the Spring Semester titled " Successful Project Presentations
